My interest as a composer lies in writing crossover or confluent music for traditional ensembles/orchestras. It’s about finding a way to inntegrate two or more styles/traditions and combining these in my pieces, much like the origins of jazz were created. Most of my pieces in this genre feature an improvising musician, usually a guitarist.

I was sitting in my practice studio (= my bedroom), when I was 22 years old, playing an easy piece by J.S.Bach. It suddenly hit me how this amazing composer managed to create beauty with just a few notes. It was the beginning of my appreciation for all the great composers who have gone before us, and have contributed so much to the music of our day.
It took, however, more than 15 years until I ventured into writing my first piece for orchestra, with myself as the improvising guitar soloist. 'In Between Worlds’ was written in 1988 and received its World Premiere in early 1989. Performances in Australia followed in 1990 in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, and again back in Switzerland in 2005. In September 1995 'In Between Worlds’ was recorded by the Radio Ostankino Symphony Orchestra in Moscow. Listen to the recording on this page.
Since then I have written a further 5 concertos for symphony orchestra and improvising guitar, two of which have been recorded recently, but are still awaiting their World Premieres.
